Alliance of Families for Justice supports, empowers, and mobilizes families with currently and formerly incarcerated loved ones and justice involved individuals, marshaling their power to create systemic change and end mass incarceration in America. AFJ offers a range of free support services including: legal advice and representation, individual and family counseling, and defending the civil and human rights of formerly and currently incarcerated people. Animal Welfare Association’s mission is to eliminate animal suffering, promote the importance of the human / animal bond, and improve the role of animals in the well being of people. AWA operates a no-kill animal center which provides medical care, adoption and foster care services, and facilitates transfers from overcrowded shelters. Fit Kids’ mission is to provide structured physical activity programs for underserved children in order to build the foundation for a healthy, active life and set children up for success in the classroom and beyond. Friends of Trees was created to both help the environment and bring people together through the act of planting trees in Portland neighborhoods and natural areas. Today, Friends of Trees is a nationally recognized, regional leader in improving the urban tree canopy and restoring sensitive natural areas—through programs delivered by thousands of volunteers. Since its founding Friends of Trees has planted 850,000+ trees and native plants throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Hope in a Box helps educators use literature to ensure every LGBTQ+ student feels safe, welcome, and included at school. They provide Hope in a Box: curated boxes of books with LGBTQ+ characters, distinctive curriculum for these books, and coaching and mentorship on how to build an inclusive classroom.
